Unflinching and unapologetic, Omar and Dawn is James Elazzi’s searing portrait of culture, sexuality and isolation. When Omar is placed into foster care with Dawn as a last-hope attempt to get him off the streets, a clash of worlds begs the question: Where do we find refuge when the world seems to have forgotten us? Award-winning director Dino Dimitriadis (Angels in America I & II, Metamorphoses) directs the premiere production of this new and urgent voice in Australian playwriting.
Hungry for a warm bed, Omar reluctantly agrees to be placed with 80-year-old Dawn. Determined not to return to a life on the streets, this is a chance to learn some practical skills from Dawn’s mechanic brother Darren. But time is running out for Omar’s best friend Ahmed, rejected by his family for being gay and living under a bridge while surviving on sex-work. Is there any hope for forging new family or is the damage simply irreparable?
Dino Dimitriadis directs a powerful cast featuring: Maggie Blinco, Antony Makhlouf, Lex Marinos and Mansoor Noor.
